Tsinamekuta (2016-2021) es un proyecto desarrollado a lo largo de cinco años, que parte del encuentro con un mineral llamado Pirrotita, un óxido ferroso con cualidades magnéticas. La Pirrotita proviene del interior de una montaña ocupada desde hace 150 años por una industria minera, hoy tercer productor de cobre en el país, ubicada en el altiplano potosino.

La montaña conocida en castellano como Cerro del Frayle, es un antiguo centro ceremonial Wixárika llamado Tsinamekuta –casa de la lluvia ubicado en Wirikuta, la zona sagrada de los Wixáritari. Actualmente ellos deben obtener permiso de la cabecera municipal de Villa de la Paz, y de los propietarios de la mina para subir a dejar sus ofrendas durante sus peregrinaciones.

El proyecto gira entorno a un proceso de exploración geológica que se materializa en la construcción de instrumentos que permiten dislocar la mirada científica que permea el pensamiento de nuestro tiempo, para relocalizarla en la subjetividad de los afectos y el aprecio por la vida en sus múltiples manifestaciones. Uno de estos instumentos es un acordeón cuyas voces armónicas responden a una composición abierta, escrita en código, basada en la lectura del campo magnético de la pirrotita, plantea un reposicionamiento del objeto tecnológico y la intencionalidad de su uso.

Tsinamekuta se concibe como un acto ceremonial considerando una consulta o permiso a miembros de la comunidad Wixárika para hacer una activación ritual del instrumento construido con estos propósitos. Durante esta activación Mara’akame Jaixa, miembro de la comunidad Wixárika fue invitado a participar del acto de hacer una ofrenda. Esta ofrenda consistió en un proceso de inducción magnética, tomando las señales eléctricas de nuestros corazones humanos para ser inducidas bajo la rúbrica de un campo magnético en la superficie de la roca. Este proceso ceremonial concluyó con el acto de devolución de la roca a su lugar de procedencia, en el interior de la montaña.

Tsinamekuta (2016-2021) is a project developed over five years, that initiated with the encounter of a mineral called Pyrrhotite, a ferrous oxide with magnetic qualities. The Pyrrhotite comes from the interior of a mountain occupied for over 150 years by a mining industry, today the third producer of copper in the country, located in the Potosino plateau.

The mountain known in Spanish as Cerro del Frayle, is an ancient Wixárika ceremonial center called Tsinamekuta – house of the rain – located in Wirikuta, in the sacred area of the Wixáritari. Currently they must obtain permission from the municipal head of Villa de la Paz, and from the owners of the mine to go up to leave their offerings during their pilgrimages.

The project revolves around a process of geological exploration that materializes in the construction of instruments that allow to displace the scientific outlook that permeates the thinking of our time, to relocalize it in the subjectivity of the affects and the appreciation of life in multiple manifestations. One of these instruments is an accordion whose harmonic voices respond to an open composition, written in code, based on the reading of the magnetic field from the Pyrrhotite, which proposes a repositioning of the technology object and the intentionality of its use.

Tsinamekuta is conceived as a ceremonial act considering a query or permission to members of the Wixárika community to do a ritual activation of the instrument constructed for this specific purpose. During this activation Mara’akame Jaixa, a member of the Wixárika community was invited to participate in the act of making an offering. This offering consisted of a magnetic induction process, taking electrical signals from our human hearts to be induced under the rubric of a magnetic field on the surface of the rock. This ceremonial process concluded with the act of returning the rock to its place of origin, in the interior of the mountain.
